The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets donate toys to the Toys for Tots Foundation to help children in our community have a toy this holiday season.
This year, the Virginia State Corps cadets collected 1,182 toys to be donated to the Toys for Tots Foundation. When the cadets came back at Thanksgiving break, we asked them to consider bringing back a toy to donate, and we made it a competition amongst the battalions as well, so the battalion that brought the most toys got an award. We collected all different types of toys to try to accommodate all ages and genders and interests, so throughout that we have some stuffed animals, we have speakers, we have basketballs, we have some Army Blackhawk helicopter figurines. Anything you think of, we got it. So we collect them here, they'll be donated to Toys for Tots, and then they'll help us out by facilitating the distribution to our community, and that's just to make sure that every child in our community will wake up with a toy this holiday season. As cadets, giving back to our community and serving others is one of our founding principles, as well as being on the Junior Tech campus with Ut Prosima as our motto, that I may serve. It's a huge factor of what we do. It's in our everyday culture, and this is just one way we can show that.
