    Thomas Lu, a senior in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, is using his talents in technology to forge a path into biomedical engineering and make the world a better place for people like his brother, Gordon. Together with his research advisor, Eli Vlaisavljevich, and other classmates, Lu has developed advanced, robotically guided histotripsy systems for treating bone cancer. He shares how his family has shaped his outlook on life, how we can see ourselves in technology, and his passion for helping others.

    Thank a Donor Day marks the conclusion of IMPACT Week, a time when students explore how private support shapes their journey at Virginia Tech. The event highlights the impact gifts make on the university, from scholarships to hands-on learning experiences and research opportunities for students. In true Hokie Spirit, hundreds of students wrote personal notes to recognize and thank those who give back to the university in the spirit of Ut Prosim (That I May Serve). The parade is a long-standing tradition that began with 132 cadets in October 1872, when all students were cadets and Virginia Tech was known as the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College.
