Corps of Cadets Pass in Review

The Corps of Cadets Pass in Review honored the Class of 2025 and ushered in the Class of 2026 as the cadet commanders of the regiment. Brig. Gen. Dwayne Edwards and Maj. Gen. William Seely also conducted a formal change of command ceremony during the event.

Brotherly bond sparks biomedical impact

Thomas Lu, a senior in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, is using his talents in technology to forge a path into biomedical engineering and make the world a better place for people like his brother, Gordon. Together with his research advisor, Eli Vlaisavljevich, and other classmates, Lu has developed advanced, robotically guided histotripsy systems for treating bone cancer. He shares how his family has shaped his outlook on life, how we can see ourselves in technology, and his passion for helping others.

Thank a Donor Day marks the conclusion of IMPACT Week, a time when students explore how private support shapes their journey at Virginia Tech. The event highlights the impact gifts make on the university, from scholarships to hands-on learning experiences and research opportunities for students. In true Hokie Spirit, hundreds of students wrote personal notes to recognize and thank those who give back to the university in the spirit of Ut Prosim (That I May Serve). Thank you to everyone who made this event a success, and to those who support Virginia Tech!

Clothesline Project returns to Virginia Tech on March 26

The Clothesline Project shows the impact of gender-based and sexual violence through hundreds of T-shirts designed by survivors and their loved ones. Each shirt carries a personal message – words of pain, resilience, and hope – to draw attention to an issue that affects millions each year.

Biological systems engineering: A day in the life

Spend a day with Maggie Scarborough, a senior in Biological Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech. Previously, she went to Nepal on a study abroad program to help build irrigation canals for a remote village. Between her hobbies and on-campus job, Maggie spends her time working on group projects in Protein Engineering and Senior Design, as well as getting hands-on, interactive experiences in her Field Methods class.

Parade concludes New Cadet Week

New cadets demonstrated what they learned during New Cadet Week and training with a parade on August 24. The parade is a long-standing tradition that began with 132 cadets in October 1872, when all students were cadets and Virginia Tech was known as the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College.

Weeks of Welcome culminates with Gobblerfest

Gobblerfest is an annual involvement fair to promote opportunities with student organizations, departments, and the broader community to kick start students’ fall semester. This year, there were over 700 booths, live performances, and rides for Virginia Tech students to enjoy.

Each fall, the Cadet Parade is part of the kickoff to the university’s Weeks of Welcome. New cadets demonstrate what they learned during New Cadet Week and training with a military parade. Major General Randal D. Fullhart, the commandant of cadets, oversees the parade along with President Tim Sands.

The Army experience lands on Virginia Tech's campus

The North Carolina National Guard 1-130 Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, landed 2 AH-64 Apache helicopters on the grounds of Virginia Tech for the Corp of Cadets annual branch orientation day. The experience gives cadets a close up view of real military hardware, as well as insight on future career paths.

FutureHAUS Dubai Exhibition on Virginia Tech's Drillfield

After winning the 2018 Solar Decathlon Middle East in Dubai, FutureHAUS Dubai comes home to Virginia Tech for a one month exhibition in April. FutureHAUS is also open to the public, showcasing its state of the art design. After its stint on campus, FutureHAUS Dubai will ship to New York City at Times Square, for its annual design week.
