To help Hokies power through finals, University Libraries at Virginia Tech served over 8,000 grilled cheese sandwiches during Cheesy Nights in Spring 2025 — a Cheesy Nights record.
Cheese. Cheesy Nights is an event that we hold in the libraries the last week of finals for May and December. And basically, we feed students. A lot of volunteers come together, and we grilled cheese sandwiches and drinks and snacks. The first cheesy nights was one card table and one little griddle and opening up individual slices of cheese in their little individual wrappers. And now it's over 6,000 sandwiches, and it's just exploded. Oh, you're not gonna that gooey inside, that nice, crispy golden brown outside. We all know that phrase O prom that I may serve, and this fits right smack dab in the middle of that. This is about community service and service to students and supporting them. There are people who work here, people go to school here. There's people who live in the community. There's parents who live far away who are coming to pick up their kids at the end of the semester who volunteer with cheesy night suds. It's really kind of a core thing, we think, the mission of the university. Cut cheese coming through. I coming cheese. So currently, I'm on hour six of studying at the library, and I truly needed a break. This is my dinner, and it's gonna give me more fuel and energy to keep on studying throughout the night. I could smell this a mile away. You know, a good grilled cheese always gets me set to study the rest of the night, and I will ace all my finals because of cheesy nights. Exactly. The energy and the vibes start with the grilled cheese and end with a banana, they end with the treats, they end with the lemonade. Everything about grilled cheesy nights, it'll make your diet. Whoa. This is the best day of my life. I think the students just really love it. There are people who refer to it as, like, This is a hokey thing I have to do. It's on my bucket list as a hokie. And that's amazing to hear that. I mean, I think so many years going on, people are now using the word tradition and think of it as a tradition, something that we're always doing here each and every year. I hope that the legacy is that when you came here, that somebody cared about you in a holistic way. Yes, we care about your grades and your safety and your well being, but caring about individuals completely is also to serve. B go hokies Who.
