Planting for the future
The Big Plant is an annual community event where thousands
of trees are planted to restore a riparian buffer ecosystem around Stroubles
Creek at the StREAM Lab and on Virginia Tech Foundation land. The effort is a collaboration
between Virginia Tech Biological Systems
Engineering, Office of Sustainability, Urban Horticulture Center, Student
Budget Board, Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation, Ecological
Restoration Field Practicum Course, and sponsored by New River
Conservancy, Environmental
Coalition, VA Dept of Forestry, and VA Dept of Environmental
Quality.
