Sam Hughes has been gaining real world experience with W.M. Jordan Company and the construction of Hitt Hall.  Hughes is also getting guidance from Virginia Tech alumnus and Project Manager Brandon Renick.
I was in Building Construction and I wanted to work on the construction building. Kind of leave my staple in Blacksburg, leave my mark. I've spent my whole life in construction, and I love it. I love construction. It's by far and away the best career choice, especially for me. But I think it's really cool working on this project, which is going to help further so many other people's educations. I think it's great, especially considering that I'll be taking classes in this building. I'll see things that other people won't see, and I'll notice things that other people won't notice. And I'll just, like, have a different perspective on it. We're in our 30th year of our internship program. And, you know, I think we've had over 500 students. We like to give them a taste of what they'll have actually once they get out of college and start their first job. We'll maybe give them a part of the building. Maybe the exterior or the structure, maybe the interior. We'll sit down, kind of teach them what we think they need to be looking for, allow them to take the first pass at it. Sit down and review it with them, say "Hey, okay, you got this, you found this." "That's good." Anything that they might have missed will kind of help teach them, guide them. It's a very unique experience for me, and I think it's been fantastic for me to learn how it's done. To be able to build a different class of building. We put responsibility in their hands, and, you know, he was great at actually following through and getting us results. And, you know, that's something that we rely on. He's doing real work that's contributing to the project. It has been great working on Virginia Tech's campus. And working alongside Virginia Tech and working with W.M. Jordan Company. I just enjoy working in Blacksburg.
