Seth Alvo, a content creator, entrepreneur, and cycling advocate with two of the largest and most popular mountain bike YouTube channels in the world, Berm Peak and Berm Peak Express, stopped by the Helmet Lab to learn what goes into evaluating the safety of bicycle helmets.
I'm Seth Alvo. I run two YouTube channels, Berm Peak and Berm Peak Express. And I'm kind of like The Bill Nye the Science guy of mountain biking. I'm trying to make content that anybody could understand, so somebody from outside of mountain biking can still enjoy the content. I don't know anything about how a helmet lab actually operates, and so I wanted to see it with my own eyes and I wanted to see what was being tested and why we should expect that those tests actually map to a safer helmet or an unsafe helmet. I think I've learned a lot, just in the hour and a half that I've been here. "So cool." Now that I know how large the disparity is between a helmet that tests not so good and a helmet that tests really good. I'm only going to be using top rated helmets from here on. I mean, it's my head. To me, it seems like these are the most reputable, neutral helmet ratings. It's not like Specialized is rating their own helmet and that's the list of ratings there. It's a completely independent body. I wanted to see how it was done and what you guys are actually rating and how big of a difference it's made in the industry.
