Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced a $2 billion public-private partnership to create a world-class entertainment district in Alexandria’s Potomac Yard adjacent to the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus.
I am pleased to announce that. Right here in Alexandria's Potomac Yard, we have a plan to unleash a brighter, more extraordinary future. We will build a spectacular $2,000,000,000 sports and entertainment district. The 9 million square foot district will feature the global headquarters for monumental sports and entertainment. An extraordinary state of the art arena that will be the home to both the Washington Capitols and the Washington Wizards. This world class entertainment district will be adjacent to our Virginia Tech Innovation Campus. This is really going to be extraordinary. The idea that this entertainment sports district will be located here in Alexandria, Virginia, will be that proverbial game changer. This will truly transform added on what's happening at Virginia Tech and then with our friends in Amazon, just over the line in Arlington. And we have the potential here to create one of the great city states, not only in this region, but literally in the world. This place for people is one of the kind, and our commitment will be to build really iconic fan centric businesses. And we want to unite this community. It really feels like all roads are now leading into Potomac Yard. As our innovation campus is coming out of the ground, we think it's very exciting to think about having monumental sports entertainment right next door to the innovation campus. There's a lot of vitality that that will bring to this region of the Potomac yard. And I think the possibilities of interacting with the innovation campus are really very high.
