Virginia First Lady Suzanne Youngkin joined Provost Cyril Clarke and others at the ribbon-cutting for the Jane and Stephen Hale Equine Performance Evaluation Center at the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg, Virginia. "I could not be more excited to see the Equine Medical Center expand in this most innovative space. These equine athletes deserve only the best and this facility is going to provide that," said Youngkin.

More than eight years ago, we began developing a vision to take sports medicine at the Equine Medical Center to the next level. And it required the creation of a shared physical infrastructure to support it. This performance center has different surfaces and different spaces with which to evaluate horses fully and all under one roof, which is fantastic. The Jane and Stephen Hale Equine Performance Evaluation Center and the connecting Paul J. Goodness Podiatry Clinic have been made possible by the philanthropic support of generous donors who desired to benefit equine athletes, equine companions, and their owners. "The EMC is a premier full service organization." We have always known that Virginia Tech was exemplary. I mean, their veterinary college is almost unrivaled in this country. We're so distinctly proud to have it in the Commonwealth. Now, all of a sudden, Virginia Tech has a footprint in Northern Virginia that equals its performance in the Blacksburg area. I could not be more excited to see the Equine Medical Center expand in this most innovative space. These equine athletes deserve only the best. And this facility is going to provide that. We have a premier equine clinical unit dedicated to really high end medical and surgical treatment of horses. In addition to that, an opportunity to educate veterinary medical students, residents, and interns in the context of the value of experiential learning. We have an opportunity to thread through that some really interesting and impactful translational research. And to do that in the midst of Virginia horse country. That's quite an achievement.
