The Big Event at Virginia Tech is a student-run day of community engagement that has grown into the second largest event of its kind in the nation. Every spring, thousands of students, faculty, and staff come together to complete nearly 1,200 community service projects throughout Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and the New River Valley with the purpose of saying Thank You.

Hokie Nation. Good morning. All across this drillfield. What a beautiful day for The Big Event. When I saw how amazing you guys are that you're committed to a Saturday morning to spend the day serving our community, I'm so impressed and so amazed and so proud to be a Hokie. You guys already know what an amazing university we have. But we also have tremendous support from our community. It's terrific that we get to give back today, and thank them for supporting you, supporting me, Virginia Tech. It's a two way street. That's what Virginia Tech's all about.
