The Virginia Tech Police Department has promoted Kendrah Cline to the rank of captain, effective Feb. 25.

In her new role, Cline will lead the administrative division, assuming direct oversight of departmental functions.

Cline previously served as the lieutenant of investigations, overseeing the department's investigations unit. In addition, she also has managed the threat assessment process, where she handled complex and sensitive matters with efficiency and professionalism.

As administrative captain, Cline will supervise a variety of functions, including planning and analysis, records management, property and evidence, university Clery Act compliance, international accreditation, the SafeRide program, student intern and work-study programs, and the community services unit.

Working in collaboration with the operations commander, Cline will ensure seamless support for departmental and university operations on a daily basis. She also will oversee the internal affairs function for the police department and collaborate closely with the chief of police and deputy chief of police in setting departmental goals and objectives.

"I am extremely grateful and honored to fill this incredibly important leadership role within our department and community. I'm excited to take this next step and learn a new and additional angle of police work and how I can continue to benefit our community as a whole," Cline said.

"I was raised by two incredibly hard-working people who taught me integrity, ambition, respect, and accountability. My upbringing, coupled with my experiences and mentors within the department and out, have certainly influenced my approach to law enforcement and leadership," she said.

Chief of Police Mac Babb said, "Kendrah Cline's dedication, experience, and leadership qualities make her an exceptional choice for the role of administrative captain. Her commitment to the safety and well-being of our officers and the university community will undoubtedly make her a great asset to the department in this leadership position."

Cline joined the Virginia Tech Police Department in June 2010 and holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Radford University. During her time at Virginia Tech, she has received numerous awards, including the Meritorious Service Award, the President’s Award, the Life-Saving Award, the Governor’s Team Award, and the Student Affairs: Excellence in Community Engagement Award.
