The Virginia Tech Police Department has recently received reports of four thefts of electric scooters from areas around the residence halls on the Blacksburg campus of Virginia Tech. The offenses occurred in the evening hours of April 23.

The Virginia Tech Police Department recommends students lock scooters to a bicycle rack to prevent thieves from riding away on them. We also encourage individuals to invest in a U Lock that will protect the bicycle more thoroughly than a cable lock. Most U Locks are cut resistant, meaning a hacksaw or bolt cutters cannot break the lock unlike a cable lock. U Locks can be found at most department stores or bicycle shops.

The Virginia Tech Police Department reminds everyone to report all crime and suspicious activity/person(s) anywhere on campus immediately to the Virginia Tech Police Department at 540-382-4343 or by dialing 911. Anonymous tips can be reported online.
