Skills Showcase highlights creative use of library resources
The Skills Showcase celebrated the innovation of student-made projects, all brought to life using library resources. Featuring work developed in creative spaces such as the Prototyping Studio and 3D Scanning Studio, the showcase highlighted how students transformed ideas into reality with the support of library tools and technology.
So this is the skill showcase, and what we do is every year we come together to celebrate art that's been created by students, faculty, and staff with help from the university libraries. So folks may have used one of our studios. They may have been inspired by our collections, or they met with an expert, and they got help on, how do I make something? So we have a wide range of things that people make, and we come together to celebrate them and also to have some fun times making art too. I made a lightsaber. I designed the hilt in solid work completely from scratch. I just used measurements that I found online. I didn't use pre built parts. And I used the library to three D print all the parts and everything. I've always wanted a lightsaber since I was a kid. My parents never bought me one, so one day, I just thought, I really want a lightsaber. I'm going to make it try and make it very chill, very crafty. We want folks to come and get inspired of, like, I can make art, and I can make art at the library, but also that art, some folks bring things that are really cool they've been working on all year. And some people come and they make something at the event, and they just doodled something for the first time. We want to celebrate all art and also know that you can find art anywhere in the world.
