In 2022, The Council on Library and Information Resources' Digitizing Hidden Collections grant program awarded Christiansburg Institute, Inc., in partnership with University Libraries at Virginia Tech, $251,052 to digitize its collections and preserve the history of the first African American high school in southwest Virginia.

The "Shining a Light on Christiansburg Institute: A Collaborative Digitization Effort" exhibit highlights the history that has been preserved through the grant. The exhibit is located on the second floor of Newman Library.
