Your brain School happens every year at the frail and Biomedical Research Institute and it's just about that time. Is there something you'd like to know about the brain? Is can the brain be changed without surgery? Now, I'd like to know the answer to that one too. I bet a brain scientist would know. Certainly, I think you can every day when you're riding your bike or learning to play the piano, you are changing your brain. Surgery. There are some instances though, and some brain diseases where you will need to have some other interventions to help change the brain. And so this is what we do it. The frail and Biomedical Research Institute is re-used different types of energy. We can translate through the intact skull into the brain to change the brain activity for certain diseases like chronic pain, addiction, or mental health disorders. And so my lab uses ultrasound as a way to get energy into the brain, through the skull, affect cellular and neuronal activity. You can also use magnetic fields. You can also use electric fields. And so this is what we study here to see how we can use these types of energies without having to open up the skull without surgery. The change brain activity to help some of these disease states.
