University Libraries honors Virginia Tech authors
It's hard to find big enough words for it. It's really great to have this go on again. I mean, we just have not been around people and I think it's coming together face-to-face and celebrating books and authors is what a library's about. And we just haven't been able to do it. So this is really great. This is a really nice event, to the meet other authors and see the prolific rate at which VT is publishing books, or VT faculty are publishing books. It's a sort of sense of community that you don't have when you sit at the desk by yourself writing your own textbook, you see that many other faculty are being productive as well and obviously engaging in the publication process. So I came in over here and sort of went around the row just to enjoy the diversity and the richness of the experience contained in the books here. I started off with, I Would Like to Live in a Treehouse which is right on the end here. If you walk down the row a little bit, there's another book about university law. There's some musical works, the sonatas and this wonderful book of poetry, hip-hop red rover red rover. I wouldn't have had the opportunity to engage and enjoy that diversity of topics had it not been for the diversity of scholarship represented in these books. I think the diversity of topics is really important because it also just kind of shows off, you know, Virginia Tech's role in the world. I think it really shows just how comprehensive of a university Virginia Tech is, and just how many wide variety of places where it can make an impact and help people. Writing a book is a lot of work. It's years in the making, not a year or less. It's multiples of years. And there are plenty of professors who, you know, tenure's based on that one great book that they write. I think they're, you know, they're due recognition. I think they're really very happy to see the university and the library take a day like this and to recognize their work.
University Libraries held the Virginia Tech Authors Recognition event March 28 to honor the those that have released books through Virginia Tech Publishing.
