So I was kind of interested in weather from a very young age, well I spent a few years in Nebraska, actually, where Tornado Alley is a very serious concern. So I would always get scared when I had to go down to the basement and my parents would be at work. So, I wanted to know what was going on and would they be okay. So that's kinda where initially I got into weather. Meteorology, I think is crucial for everyone. I mean, not only do people always want to check their phone and see what the weather is just for general "oh is it going to be a nice day is it not going to be a nice day?" But also, tornadoes are a major threat across the US as are many other threats, flash flooding, winter storms, hurricanes. As a meteorologist, I think it's really important to think about the human side and helping people out. Because you can, check an app for your day-to-day things, but putting out announcements about okay, this event is happening. You need to take shelter. Or this is what you should do to stay safe. Helping people through events, preparing for events after events, I think is really crucial for a meteorologist. Just a couple of years ago, a friend of mine and myself founded the Pi Epsilon Pi, the meteorology honor society. And it's our goal to basically serve to try to help out. So one of the things we do is we try to go to schools. We've been to a couple and just teach a little bit about weather help teachers with just one lesson so that they don't have to worry about that for the day. Or we have a mentorship program going where incoming freshmen can opt in and they have all of the juniors and seniors in meteorology help them with any questions they have, any concerns. There's just an open line of communication. I have had so many fantastic experiences and opportunities here at Tech. But what I think to is my study abroad experience in Panama. That was a fan.. - it wasn't all that long. It was just a couple of weeks where we got to go look at all of the different geographic, human dimensions, environmental linkages. I experienced an entirely new culture and I wish I could have gone again because it was such an impactful experience for me.
