Pavli Mykerezi honored with emeritus status

Pavli Mykerezi, senior instructor and director of the agricultural technology program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of director emeritus by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The emeritus title may be conferred on retired professors, associate professors, and administrative officers who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.

A member of the Virginia Tech faculty since 2006, Mykerezi’s scholarship focused on the role of career and technical education in socio-economic development and made significant contributions to experiential learning through his work in agricultural technology focusing on expanding agricultural technology programs globally.

In the classroom, Mykerezi’s taught a wide variety of associate degree courses across the agricultural technology curriculum, including courses on Applied Agricultural Mathematics, Computer Applications, and Contemporary Agricultural Issues. In addition, he advised numerous students with hands-on, experiential learning opportunities and helped them develop successful careers in both academic and industrial settings.

Before coming to Virginia Tech, Mykerezi spent 23 years in the education system in his native Albania as a physics teacher, director-general in an Agricultural Polytechnic School, and inspector of education.

Mykerezi received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Tirana in Albania and a master’s degree and Ph.D. from Virginia Tech.
