Virginia Tech will celebrate its Old Guard Society of Golden Alumni Reunion May 16-18.

The reunion is for all alumni who graduated in 1967 and earlier. Each year at Homecoming when alumni celebrate their 50th class reunion, they are inducted into the Old Guard Society of Golden Alumni.

This year’s reunion will have new opportunities for alumni to explore campus and catch up with one another. Participants will tour newly completed $36 million athletic facilities, hear about the latest in cancer research, and experience dinner on the Holtzman Alumni Center lawn.

Anniversary classes for '48, '53, '58, and '63 will be featured at the reunion and the Class of 1967 will be welcomed as the newest members of the society.

Dorothy Herndon, Old Guard Society of Golden Alumni president, is looking forward to catch up with friends from her time in school.

“There is something so special about Virginia Tech people. There is a special bond,” Herndon said. “One of the best decisions I’ve ever made was to go to Virginia Tech.”

The reunion is not the only upcoming opportunity for alumni to return to campus and reconnect. The university is launching its first-ever summertime reunion weekend. Reunion 2018 is June 7-10 and represents a new approach to reunions.

For the first time, the Office of Alumni Relations is planning one large summer reunion weekend, rather than individual class reunions during weekends in the fall. The move is a way for alumni to spend more time on campus with access to more facilities, tours, and faculty than they would have during a fall weekend.

Old Guard and the 50th Reunion will still be held in the spring and fall respectively.

Registration for Old Guard is open. The cost of the reunion is $175 per person. The price includes Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday events, including both dinners. A la carte options are also available.
