FORM | Line-Plane-Solid on exhibit at Perspective Gallery
FORM | Line-Plane-Solid, an exhibit by students in the industrial design program in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, will be on display at the Perspective Gallery through Saturday, May 17. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
The Perspective Gallery is located on the second floor in Squires Student Center at Virginia Tech. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 12:30 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. The gallery is closed on Mondays.
The show features more than 200 projects of nearly 100 Virginia Tech students. The exhibition itself was designed and built by a team of 19 students. The site-specific installation includes modular towers used to display student work that spans six different form exercises and four different form products
The exhibit represents work from the 2011, 2012, and 2013 sophomore form studio curriculum, designed by Mitzi Vernon, industrial design professor in the School of Architecture and Design. The form studio concept was highlighted in the journal Studies of Material Thinking in an article Vernon co-authored with Martha Sullivan. Titled Form to Product: Making as Pedagogy, it explores the importance of understanding basic form design for successful product creation.
The exhibit is sponsored by the Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research, the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology, Innovation Space, the School of Architecture and Design, and the industrial design program.
