Equine medical center's Priscilla Blackburn earns Veterinary Hospital Managers Association certification
Priscilla Blackburn, who is the assistant administrator for patient care at Virginia Tech's Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center, recently earned the designation of Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) by successfully passing the certification exam offered by the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA) last February. This designation is VHMA's highest professional distinction.
VHMA’s certification program measures the knowledge and experience necessary to successfully manage the ever-changing business environment of today’s veterinary practices. Those who earn the certification are required to maintain a commitment to further improve their professional knowledge and skills through continuing education.
“Ms. Blackburn is to be commended for this accomplishment,” said Dr. Nathaniel A. White II, Jean Ellen Shehan Professor of Veterinary Medicine, and equine medical center director. “Since joining us, she has been a tremendous asset to the center. This achievement is not only something she can be very proud of, but it offers added value and benefit to the [equine medical center], its patients and its clients,” he added.
VHMA, created in 1981, is an international professional association, structured to support individuals in veterinary practice management. The organization’s guiding principles include the pursuit of excellence in practice management, helping to open channels of communication, and fostering networking activities among practices. Over 1,400 hospital managers, veterinarians, technicians and consultants belong to the VHMA.
