This year’s limited-edition Hokie socks were designed by Virginia Tech students, Mikaela Saint Hilaire and Mia Jimenez. Their designs take inspiration from campus favorites – such as buildings on campus and Lane Stadium – and offer a way for Hokies to stay connected to the community while supporting Virginia Tech.
Hi, I'm Mia. I'm Mikeala. And we're this year's sock designers. My design started off as a football field inspired sock. I wanted to kind of depict the sense of community and spirit that Virginia Tech athletics has. I wanted my socks to just be, like, a love letter to Blacksburg as a whole, because, like, it's not just VT that's home. It's Blacksburg that's home. The first thing that came to mind was the Hokie Stone, because almost every building on campus is built with it. Hokie Stone is what brings us together. I've never designed apparel before, so this is my first time doing something like this. And it was a great experience, honestly. Something especially important to designers when you're learning is to have tangible work, like, our work is in our hands, and there's, like, a thrill that you get. And like, even though it's just, you know, like, a kind of unsung part of the wardrobe, the sock the humble sock. It's really sweet that we got to design something that people can hold onto for a long time.
