On Dec. 11, students, family, and friends gathered for a commencement ceremony and celebration held at the Arlington Research Center. Nearly 60 students from the region were recognized for completing their masters and doctoral programs.
We are about to get started. If you would like to find your seat. I am deeply honored to welcome you to the Graduate School's 2023 graduation ceremony for our expanded campuses in the Washington, D.C. area. This evening, we are proud to salute you and your fine accomplishments. We stand with you and proudly celebrate with you. Our candidates for whom we laud today will undoubtedly make an indelible mark in alma mater's history. [Thank you] This evening, nearly 60 students from the greater Washington DC Metro area and our online programs will be recognized for completing degree requirements for doctoral and masters programs from four of the university's colleges. In total, more than 400 students from the region have earned graduate degrees and certificates this academic year. It's challenging to earn an advanced degree. According to the Census Bureau, just 8% of the US population complete a Master's degree and only 3% complete the doctoral degree. So this is elite company you're in here this evening. I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to the students who have fulfilled the requirements for a graduate degree at Virginia Tech. Congratulations on your accomplishments and thank you for being a part of the Virginia Tech community.
