President Tim Sands presents Hoda Kotb '86 with the medal and resolution acknowledging her receipt of Virginia Tech's 2022 University Distinguished Achievement Award. Kotb was not able to be on campus to receive the award, traditionally presented during Spring Commencement, but Sands delivered it to Kotb inside 30 Rockefeller Center where Kotb serves as an anchor for NBC's TODAY.

Tim Sands: We're so pleased to be able to present you with this Distinguished Alumni Award. And you can take it off when you sleep but you don't have to. Hoda Kotb: Wait if you want, that is key. This is beautiful. Tim Sands: Well, as Dawn said... Hoda Kotb: Wow. Tim Sands: Even though you weren't able to be there in person, the crowd felt like you were. Hoda Kotb: I mean, this is such an honor. And oh, okay. Tim Sands: This is our team, our women's basketball team. Hoda Kotb: Wait, what!? They signed it? Tim Sands: They signed it for you, specifically. Hoda Kotb: Okay. Stop. Hoda, thanks for being a great representative of Virginia Tech. Go Hokies! Oh, my goodness. Okay, this is a... look at this. Okay. Here we go. Close enough (laughing.)
