A lot of my designs are inspired by vintage and retro fashions. And I wanted to incorporate that in designing socks and hats for Virginia Tech. When someone first lays eyes on this hat, I want them to feel like they've never seen this and that it's unique compared to other Virginia Tech merch that they might own. I was inspired by some of the goofy game day merch, the dramatic overalls, the bright colors. I sort of wanted to lines like going up into the VT. And then I wanted something inspired by Burruss Hall. Also, I wanted to go for something that anybody can wear and anyone can look good in, and anyone can feel their best in. One of my favorite parts of the project was getting to see something that you started from a drawing or an idea, get to the end and be sort of like an actual finished design. I'm happy that I got to follow the Virginia Tech brand, while staying true to myself and my personal aesthetics as a designer.
