Bryan Garey, vice president for Human Resources, encourages Virginia Tech faculty and staff to work together and follow safety protocols as the university shifts to modified operations on August 3 to get ready for fall semester.

We will begin staffing up in preparation for the return of students to campus and support services for these faculty and staff will also ramp up. This does not mean that every employee automatically returns to campus. We encourage and promote remote work and telework wherever possible to reduce the overall number of people on campus, which keeps everyone, faculty, staff, students, and the community safer. Every leader and every department and college is working hard to implement work plans to keep their teams safe in the workplace. The university has implemented new deep cleaning measures across campus. There have been modifications to classrooms to adhere to physical distancing guidelines. The university has invested in protective equipment that departments can order through our procurement team. Hand sanitizer stations are being installed all over the campus. While we recognize that not all jobs at the university can be done remotely, there are many that can. Telework is absolutely an option for employees who work in roles that can be performed effectively in a remote environment. We're absolutely committed at Virginia Tech to supporting our employees and helping them through this time.
