The university Artificial Intelligence (AI) Working Group has drafted a list of Responsible and Ethical AI Principles for community review. The purpose of the AI Principles is to establish a common understanding of key concepts related to the use of AI at Virginia Tech to guide practitioners and help direct choices as the university implements AI tools.
The current draft is organized around seven principles:
- Uphold our Mission and Principles of Community
- Foster innovation, discovery, and exploration
- Expand human capabilities and affirm beneficence
- Promote responsible and ethical use
- Prioritize fairness and transparency
- Preserve human judgment and accountability
- Secure and protect data and privacy
These principles are not university policy and may change as knowledge and technology advance.
University community members are encouraged to learn more about these principles by reviewing the presentation, reading the document, or watching the following video.
