Corps of Cadets Change of Command Parade to be held May 2 on Drillfield
The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will conduct a Pass in Review on Saturday, May 2, to honor the Class of 2015 as they become alumni of the corps. The parade will also usher in the Class of 2016 as the new cadet officers and commanders of the regiment.
The current regimental commander is Cadet Col. Austin Dickey of Virginia Beach, Virginia, a senior majoring in management in the Pamplin College of Business who is also pursuing a minor in leadership studies from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Rice Center for Leader Development. He is a recipient of the Herbert J. Thomas ’41 Medal of Honor Emerging Leader Scholarship. Dickey, who was honored this year as the top Marine-option cadet in the region, will commission in the U.S. Marine Corps following graduation this May.
Dickey will pass command to Cadet Samantha Reed of Manassas, Virginia, a junior majoring in meteorology in the College of Natural Resources and Environment who is also pursuing a minor in leadership studies from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Rice Center for Leader Development as well as a minor in statistics from the College of Science. Reed is a member of Air Force ROTC and is a recipient of the Nicholas D. Street ’53 Emerging Leader Scholarship.
The Pass in Review will begin at 10 a.m. on the Drillfield, centered in front of Burruss Hall which is located at 800 Drillfield Drive. The corps is proud to welcome Virginia Tech President Timothy D. Sands who will address the cadets during the parade. In addition, the Highty-Tighties will play and Skipper, the corps cannon, will be fired when the cadets first enter the Drillfield, at the first note of the national anthem, and the first note of “Tech Triumph.” A total of three shots will be fired.
