Nancy Mason receives 2015 College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences Outstanding Senior Award
Nancy Mason of Bluefield, Virginia, received Virginia Tech’s 2015 College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences Outstanding Senior Award.
Sponsored by the Virginia Tech Alumni Association and the senior class, the Outstanding Senior Award recognizes exceptional academic achievement and leadership by a graduating senior from each of the university’s eight colleges. Recipients have a minimum grade point average of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale and are selected by faculty and students within the respective colleges.
Mason will receive a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in Asian area studies during the University Commencement ceremony May 15 in Lane Stadium.
Mason completed three undergraduate research projects, is participating in two other projects, and was invited to present her research at several conferences this spring.
A member of the Phi Alpha Theta history honor society, she serves on the advisory board for the Office of Undergraduate Research, where she works to promote undergraduate research. Mason’s many volunteer activities including church activities, serving as a volunteer actress for Kidzlife in Salem, the Bridges Language Partners Program, ACROSS international outreach program, Roanoke Rescue Mission, and The Big Event.
She also founded Hot Chocolate on the Drillfield, which provides beverages to students who cross the Drillfield to their 8 a.m. classes.
