Michael D. Kelly has been appointed a clinical associate professor in the Department of Leadership, Counseling, and Research in Virginia Tech’s College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.

Kelly is one of 27 new tenure-track faculty members at the college this fall. The new hires are part of the college’s ongoing efforts to attract renowned scholars to strengthen and expand its teaching, research, and engagement programs. The college has added more than 100 full-time permanent faculty members in the past four years.

Kelly’s research interests include school law, principal internships, and school resource officer relations. He will teach courses on school law, school finance, and curriculum supervision. He will also serve as an advisor on doctoral dissertation committees.

Kelly has been published in several scholarly journals, including the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration Education Leadership Review, the Journal of International Education and Leadership, and the Journal of Human Resource and Adult Learning.

He received his bachelor's degree from California University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree and Ph.D. from George Washington University.
