Career Services program helps students dress for success
After students use the resources at Career Services to craft a strong résumé, find co-ops and internships, and practice for interviews, one step remains in the career search process—the actual interview itself.
Because a first impression is crucial during an interview or at any career event, Career Services will host the second annual VT Career Outfitters on Wednesday, Sept. 10 and Thursday, Sept. 11 to help students dress for success at no charge.
VT Career Outfitters provides students with new or gently used business attire so that all students can participate in career events such as interviews, career fairs, and networking socials.
Last year's event was attended by 530 students.
“This program stemmed from an understanding that many students are in need of a service like this one," said Johanna Smith, assistant director of career services. "Many struggle just to be enrolled in college and discovering the importance of quality business attire when preparing to attend career events can be stressful for them. Many students have expressed gratitude that we recognized this need and helped alleviate this concern for them.”
The suit and accessory drive began in April and Career Services will accept donations through Friday, Sept. 5. Suits for men and women; ties, belts and shoes for men; and blazers, dress pants, and dress skirts for women are needed for the event.
Career Services will transform the second floor of Smith Career Center into a shopping environment for students. Students select clothes at no charge and can keep the clothes for future use at various career events.
