Dr. J. Claudio Gutierrez returns to Virginia Tech veterinary college as anatomy instructor
Dr. J. Claudio Gutierrez has returned to the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech as an anatomy instructor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology.
Gutierrez was previously an assistant professor of anatomy at the Universidad Austral de Chile. He first came to the veterinary college in 2004 as a Ph.D. student under the Fulbright Scholarship program and has been an adjunct professor here since 2009. The veterinary college has a long-standing faculty and student exchange program with the Universidad Austral de Chile.
“We are excited that Dr. Gutierrez has returned to the veterinary college as a full-time instructor of anatomic pathology,” said Dr. S. Ansar Ahmed, head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology. “In particular, Dr. Gutierrez has experience in teratology, or the study of birth defects, and research interests in diabetes and pregnancy, as well as fetal development. He is a tremendous asset to the veterinary college’s instructional programs.”
In his new role, Gutierrez will supervise and teach veterinary students, interns, and residents in the area of anatomic pathology.
Gutierrez earned a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from the Universidad de Concepcion in Chile and a doctorate in teratology from the veterinary college.
