Veterinary college hires Dr. Tom Cecere as assistant professor of anatomic pathology
Dr. Tom Cecere has joined the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech as an assistant professor of anatomic pathology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology.
Cecere was a postdoctoral Fellow in a biomedical research training program at the veterinary college prior to accepting his current position. Before that, he was a Cunningham Doctoral Scholar at the veterinary college and an anatomic pathology resident at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
“Dr. Cecere brings a wide range of teaching and research experience to the veterinary college,” said Dr. S. Ansar Ahmed, head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology. “His research in swine infectious diseases and microbial immunology complements his experience teaching clinical techniques and diagnostic pathology to fourth-year veterinary students. We welcome Dr. Cecere’s expertise to the veterinary college.”
Cecere earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Virginia Tech, a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from the veterinary college, and a master’s degree in anatomic pathology from North Carolina State University. This spring, he earned a doctorate in viral immunology at the veterinary college through a National Institutes of Health training grant program designed to address the shortage of veterinarians who conduct biomedical research. He is board certified in anatomic pathology from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.
