Kentucky Air National Guard flyover to be hosted by Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets for UVA game
The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will welcome the 165th Airlift Squadron, 123rd Airlift Wing from Louisville Ky., who will conduct a military aircraft flyover with a Lockheed C-130H Hercules aircraft during the National Anthem prior to the Virginia Tech versus University of Virginia football game on Saturday, Nov. 24.
The flyover is expected barring weather or operational factors. The flight was coordinated by Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus Lt. Col. Phil Millett, Kentucky Air National Guard, who earned degrees in management and marketing management from the Pamplin College of Business in 1988. He will also serve as the aircraft commander for this flight. Millett was recognized as the Hokie Hero for the January 2011 Orange Bowl while he was in Afghanistan during his fifth combat deployment.
In addition to Millett, the Kentucky Air National Guard crew includes copilot Capt. Chip Templeman; navigator Capt. Brian Keating; flight engineer Master Sgt. Mark Crane; and loadmaster Master Sgt. Brad Simms.
The 123rd Airlift Wing’s mission is to provide worldwide theater airlift for U.S. military and humanitarian operations. The wing is equipped with eight C-130H aircraft.
