Dr. Mark Freeman joins veterinary college's Small Animal Community Practice
Dr. Mark Freeman of Auburn, Ala., has joined the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech as an assistant professor of community practice in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences.
Freeman previously worked as an assistant professor of small animal surgery at the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and as an assistant professor of small animal medicine at the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine. He has also worked as a small animal private practice, emergency, and relief veterinarian in Alabama and Georgia. Freeman began his new position at the veterinary college on April 25.
“Dr. Freeman brings more than a decade of experience a veterinarian, both in private practice and in academia,” said Dr. Greg Daniel, head of the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences. “Dr. Freeman is recognized for his teaching excellence as evident by his numerous teaching awards, including the Pfizer Outstanding Teacher Award. He has already demonstrated his ability to provide excellent care for our clients and improve animal health and welfare throughout the region.”
In his new role, Freeman will support the Veterinary Teaching Hospital’s Small Animal Community Practice, which provides full-service out-patient preventative health care to local small animal clients within a 35-mile radius of Blacksburg. Services include vaccinations, parasite preventive programs, spay and neuter, dentistry, common clinical medical issues, and minor surgical procedures.
Freeman earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Morehead State University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Auburn University. He is board-eligible with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.
