Director of Student Conduct Frances Keene has been appointed to the newly created role of chief of operations for several units within the Division of Student Affairs.

Keene, who has been with Virginia Tech since 2002, was selected from a pool of more than 100 applicants. She will support Associate Vice President for Student Affairs Frank Shushok Jr. in a broad range of activities, including project management and financial and strategic planning for Dining Services, Housing and Residence Life, Career Services, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and Student Conduct.

“Frances' decade-long tenure in Student Conduct has been marked by excellent leadership, forward-thinking, and a student-centered/learning-centered mindset,” said Shushok. “Frances is known for her collaborative and collegial disposition, and I know she'll be reaching out to these units soon as part of her new role.”

Keene began her career with Virginia Tech as a victim services adjudication coordinator in the Office of Judicial Affairs, now called Student Conduct. She went on to become assistant director in 2003, and was named interim director in 2004 prior to taking on her current role of director. She also holds a part-time position in the university’s Long Range Planning Office as assistant director of long range planning, which will conclude this May.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from The College of William and Mary and a master’s degree in counselor education with an emphasis on student affairs practice in higher education from the University of Virginia. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies at Virginia Tech.
