Cadets honored with flag detail at Wofford game

First-year Cadets Teagan Butler, Raegan Weaver, and McKenna Carson received the flags at Saturday’s football game against Wofford.

The passing of the flags during the pre-game ceremonies was a continuation of the proud partnership between the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and Virginia Tech football to highlight the colors at every football game.

Three football players, chosen because of their performance in the last game or at practice, carried the American flag, the state flag, and the team’s spirit flag and led the team onto the field. They delivered the flags to cadets at the south end of the field. 

The cadets, also selected based on their performance in the corps, rendered honors to the flags and carried them off the field. For home games, three first-year cadets are selected, and one or two upper-class cadets travel with the team and receive the flags at away games. 

Butler, from Leesburg, Virginia, is in Navy ROTC and majoring in psychology in the College of Science. Described by her cadet leaders as humble, skillful, and selfless, she supports other first-year cadets in Alpha Company and exceeds the standards. Butler quickly mastered new cadet duties and is a top performer who seeks to lift those around her.   

Weaver is majoring in neuroscience in the College of Science and is a member of Air Force ROTC. From Henrico, Virginia, she is known for her attention to detail and confidence. A high-performing cadet in Bravo Company, Weaver learns quickly and consistently exceeds the standards on room and uniform inspections. She brings innovative and thoughtful approaches to daily tasks.

Carson, from Midlothian, Virginia, is a member of Army ROTC and is majoring in biochemistry in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Fearless and confident under pressure, she is consistently the first in her class to attempt new challenges. Carson’s determination and positive energy lift her peers in Delta Company, and she daily demonstrates cadet leadership by setting the example and encouraging others.
