To the Virginia Tech community,

As we come to the end of our spring semester, I want to congratulate the members of the Class of 2025 as they prepare to graduate. Consider your trajectory over the past four years. You applied during the pandemic, with many accepting their offers of admission without a campus visit. You were part of our transition back to in-person instruction and engagement. You helped us navigate the challenges that political change and global conflict brought to our community. You’ve been an example to the rest of us, demonstrating strength and resilience that will serve you well as you go into a world that continues to evolve. You have the knowledge and skills to lead and succeed, and the Hokie community will be here to support you as you move forward.

To all our students, good luck with your finals and I hope everyone has an opportunity to rest and recharge during the summer break.

Thank you to our faculty and staff for your hard work and support for Virginia Tech’s mission over the past academic year. The milestones we achieved set the stage for the continuing advancement of our research, teaching, and outreach mission in the communities we serve. I’m proud of what we have achieved at our Blacksburg, Roanoke, and Alexandria locations, and I look forward to expanding the Virginia Tech innovation network to impact the lives of people across the commonwealth.

I also want to express my appreciation for the leadership and support provided this semester by Virginia Tech Research and Innovation, Student Affairs, and the Cranwell International Center. Please continue to follow their updates and guidance and take advantage of the resources that will continue to be available over the summer.

Congratulations to Virginia Tech Athletics on a great spring semester that brought ACC championship wins in men’s track and field and wrestling. And let’s cheer on our women’s softball team, which enters this week’s ACC tournament as the No. 3 seed after beating Florida State in the regular season finale.

And a big thank you to Whit Babcock and his team for all their work in bringing Metallica to Blacksburg for tonight’s concert.  I look forward to joining thousands of you in Lane Stadium for that historic moment when Hokie Nation jumps to a live performance of “Enter Sandman.”

Let’s go, Hokies!
Off to never-never land!

Have a great summer,

Tim Sands,
President
