It all started with an idea on a piece of paper. Founded in 2010, PRISM was created with a goal of establishing a dynamic social presence for Pamplin’s College of Business at Virginia Tech. Led by faculty and powered by students, PRISM has grown into an interdisciplinary advertising agency that brings together creatives, strategizers, and analysts, offering hands-on experience in the ever-evolving world of marketing.

What started with faculty advisor Donna Wertalik and inaugural alumni Sandy Bass ‘10 and Charlotte Ryland ‘10 has evolved into a nationally recognized student organization. Now celebrating its 15th anniversary, PRISM boasts a network of over 300 successful alumni and a current cohort of 68 student members.

“It’s incredible to be part of this legacy,” said alumnus Bass. “I’m so proud of Professor Wertalik and the group of talented and brilliant individuals that she’s rallied to support the organization and foster mentorship, real-world marketing experience, camaraderie, and community.”

With a 100% job placement rate, PRISMites are making their mark from coast to coast, working among some of the most renowned companies such as Google, Apple, Ogilvy, Altria, Disney, The Martin Agency, Frito-Lay, Capital One, Salesforce, and many more.

PRISM’s reputation as Virginia Tech’s premier ad agency continues to grow, driven by its innovative digital marketing strategies. The student organization has earned eight Telly Awards, a Silver ADDY Award, and was named Virginia Tech’s Outstanding Student Organization of the Year in 2019.

“It’s been such an honor contributing to this impressive legacy,” alumna Ryland reflects. “PRISM is full of talented, ambitious people who are destined to leave their mark. From countless awards to creating an amazing community - it’s been truly amazing to see how far this organization has come.”

As PRISM rolls out plans to celebrate this milestone year, one thing is certain. The organization’s spirit and passion for innovation will continue to inspire the next generation of business leaders.
