On April 9, the Pamplin College of Business hosted its inaugural Research Awards Ceremony, honoring six faculty members with the Research Impact Award for their outstanding scholarly achievements and impactful contributions to academia, industry, and beyond. 

Honorees included: 

  • Idris Adjerid, PhD., Associate Professor of Pamplin’s Business Information Technology Department, was recognized for the Management Science “Best Paper” Award, titled Consumer Consent and Firm Targeting After GDPR: The Case of a Large Telecom Provider. Adjerid’s research has been published in leading journals, including Management Science, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, American Psychologist, and ACM Computer Surveys. 

  • Paul Lowry, PhD., Suzanne Parker Thornhill Chair Professor of Pamplin’s Business Information Technology Department, was recognized for becoming an Association for Information Systems (AIS) Fellow. Lowry has over 280 publications and has been consistently ranked in the top 5 in the world in various top information systems journal rankings. 

  • Christopher Porter, PhD., Strickler Professor of Pamplin’s Management Department, was recognized for becoming a Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) Fellow. Porter’s research has been published in numerous journals, and he currently serves on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Journal, the Journal of Management, and the Leadership Quarterly.  

  • Viswanath Venkatesh, PhD., Verizon Professor of Pamplin’s Business Information Technology Department, was recognized for 200,000+ Google Citations. Venkatesh has been widely regarded as one of the most influential scientists in terms of premier journal publications and citation impact by Clarivate, Thomson Reuters’ highlycited.com, Emerald Citations, SSRN, and PLos Biology. 

  • Shane Wang, PhD., Professor of Marketing for Pamplin’s Marketing Department was recognized for becoming a Marketing Science Institute (MSI) Scholar. Wang’s work has appeared in many leading publications as well as being amongst the top 5 cited in the Journal of Marketing from 2021 to 2022. 

  • Zheng ‘Phil’ Xiang, PhD., Department Head of Pamplin’s Howard Feiertag Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, was recognized for becoming a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher for several years in a row. Xiang currently serves as the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Information Technology and Tourism and is an editorial board member of several international journals. 

“Research drives innovation, solves complex problems, and shapes the future of business,” Dean Bagchi reflected. “It’s an essential component of Pamplin’s collective growth and success. We are immensely proud of these distinguished scholars who expand the frontiers of knowledge and strengthen the business world and society. Their work truly embodies Virginia Tech's motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).”
