Frank Weiner honored with emeritus status

Frank Weiner, professor of architecture in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of professor emeritus by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The emeritus title may be conferred on retired faculty members who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.
A member of the Virginia Tech community for more than 37 years, Weiner demonstrated formative leadership as head of the former Department of Architecture and interim founding director of the former interdisciplinary School of Architecture and Design. He served as the founding curator of the Lucy and Olivio Ferrari Archive at the School of Architecture and Design, overseeing the creation and management of an invaluable collection of educational artifacts, art, and children's books.
Weiner earned the international first prize in the European Association for Architectural Education Prize for Writings in Architectural Education. In the classroom, he taught a variety of courses in architecture, including leading study abroad programs and studios.
Throughout his career, Weiner served as a mentor and advisor for numerous undergraduate and graduate students.
Weiner received his bachelor’s degree in architecture from Tulane University and his master’s degree in building design from Columbia University.
