Capt. Dimosthenis Doulamis, Maj. Matthew Smith, Capt. Michael Crain named Stanford game Hokie Heroes
Three Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni were selected as the Hokie Heroes for Saturday's football game against Stanford.
U.S. Air Force Capt. Dimosthenis Doulamis, a 2018 corps graduate, earned his degree in human development from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. U.S. Air Force Maj. Matthew Smith graduated from the corps and earned his degree in meteorology from the College of Natural Resources and Environment in 2014, and U.S. Air Force Capt. Michael Crain earned his degree in aerospace engineering from the College of Engineering and graduated from the corps in 2017.
The Hokie Hero program honors corps alumni who are deployed. Recipients are highlighted by Bill Roth and Mike Burnop during their radio broadcast of Hokie football games, on the Corps of Cadets website, and in the Corps Review alumni magazine.
The three Hokie Heroes are deployed with the 335th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron in the Middle East in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Doulamis is serving as the mission commander and chief of mission planning, Smith is an F-15E instructor and director of staff, while Crain is an F-15E pilot serving as the chief of safety for the squadron.
While in the corps, Smith was a member of India Company and Crain was a member of Echo Company. Doulamis was a member of Golf Company and later served as the regimental sergeant major, 2nd Battalion executive officer, and commander of Echo Company.
