How VMCVM equipped me for the 'real world'...
It gave me a great well rounded education with all animals. This education gave me the confidence to make a switch to teaching animals I do not currently work on in my practice.
Best part of being a VMCVM alum...
I get to reconnect with friends and faculty I don’t get to see often.
Best advice I've gotten....
Be a great veterinarian first and a great theriogenologist second. - Dr. William Ley
How would you capture the essence of your work in a newspaper headline...
Equine vet switches to exotics!
My hidden talent...
Chinchilla handling and raising.
A person who has inspired me...
My husband, Dr. Scott Reiners, he came from nothing and has worked incredibly hard to grow an amazing equine sports medicine hospital!
What did you learn at the college that you never thought you would benefit from?
Cytology and now I teach it!
Biggest misconception about my job or industry...
All equine vets work 24/7.
Words of encouragement to a current veterinary college student...
I know it may seem like what you are learning isn’t relevant at times, but you never know what the future holds. Enjoy your time in vet school and C really does equal DVM!
Fondest college memory or tradition...
Alpha Psi and hiking with my class the very first weekend.
A cause I'm most passionate about... The most formative experience I've had...
A pathway to vet school through a veterinary technology program to save on tuition.
Top of my bucket list...
Travel to Costa Rica.
My favorite quote...
"The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but it is too low and we reach it." -Michelangelo
Being a VMCVM alumnus means...
The prestige of being from a top level veterinary college.
How many pets/animals live at home? Can you tell us about them?
We have 65 animals total. Chinchillas, sugar gliders, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, pigs, tegus, skinks, snakes, bearded dragons, horses, mini zebus, goats, dogs, cats, and birds. We have a zoo!
Anything else to add?
Time flies when you are having fun, and vet medicine is a blast! I would do it all over again!
