Krista Timney named director of communications for the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design
Krista Timney has been named director of communications for the Virginia Tech College of Architecture, Arts, and Design (AAD), effective June 25. In this role, Timney will envision and develop a comprehensive, digital-first communications plan for the college and lead the execution of campaigns and activities that align with university strategic goals and initiatives.
Two immediate priorities will be developing a multichannel approach to highlight the transformational student learning experiences in the college that are representative of the Virginia Tech Advantage as well as the research and creative scholarship activities that are a hallmark of Virginia Tech Global Distinction and a commitment to act as a global force for positive change.
As a member of the college’s advancement team, Timney will contribute to coordinated efforts to increase alumni and donor engagement and meet philanthropic goals. Additional areas of emphasis include assisting with ongoing efforts to build a collaborative, transparent, and caring community in the college as well as championing the college brand and raising awareness of the importance of arts and design on campus, across the commonwealth, and in the world.
"Kris has a strong track record of effectively highlighting engaged learning and research activities at Virginia Tech, and we look forward to having her join the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design to help us elevate the impact of the creative scholarship and teaching happening in our spaces daily,” said Dean Lu Liu. “AAD students and graduates are shaping the world around us with their creative approaches to music, theatre, cinema, architecture, fine arts, and design — all with a deep commitment to improving the human experience — and we are excited that Kris will help us tell those stories."
Timney joined Virginia Tech in January 2018 as the director of communications for the College of Natural Resources and Environment, where she built a comprehensive communications program highlighted by the in-house creation of a new website, a suite of recruitment publications, a reinvigorated print newsmagazine, and ongoing efforts to cultivate and produce news stories, media pitches, and other digital content designed to elevate hands-on learning and faculty research in the college.
Prior to joining Virginia Tech, Timney served as senior associate director of marketing and communications for the Office of Admissions at Indiana University–Bloomington. She earned her doctorate in educational leadership from Clemson University in 2011 and holds degrees from Frostburg State University, Penn State, and James Madison University.
