The university and local communities are invited to discover recent projects and innovative solutions at the Virginia Tech Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) Creativity + Innovation Day 2024 on April 29.

In its 12th iteration, the ICAT Creativity + Innovation Day will be filled with exhibits, performances, and demonstrations designed to showcase how students and faculty use their expertise to tackle complex challenges.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at locations in or near the Moss Arts Center, the public will have an opportunity completely free of charge to engage with the university's newest creative and innovative efforts.

Exhibited projects will span science, engineering, arts, and design and range from technology and innovation to art and culture to sustainability, education, and research projects.

Events for the day will be set across multiple spaces at the Moss Arts Center and Creativity and Innovation District living-learning community's Performance Hall. This includes two special events: The Beat Goes On performance and the “Open (at the) Source” exhibition.

A post-reception event will be held in the Cube from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The Beat Goes On performance

The Beat Goes On is a community choir that includes individuals with dementia and their caregivers. Organized by the Engagement Center for Creative Aging, it aims to illustrate the profound impact of music in building and nurturing community bonds and enhancing emotional well-being. Doors open at 5:15 p.m with the concert beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Creativity and Innovation District Performance Hall.

The concert aims to unite people across different backgrounds through shared musical expression and performance and  serves as  a social engagement tool to underscore music’s therapeutic qualities and its impact on health and wellness for people of all ages.

"Open (at the) Source" exhibition

"Open (at the) Source" will present pioneering approaches to public exhibits using technology to deliver immersive and interactive experiences through five projects, four of which are student-funded research projects and one by the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology’s audio technologist.

The exhibit opens in the Ruth C. Horton Gallery at the Moss Arts Center on April 29 and will continue to be on display for the following two weeks through May 11.

Parking is available at Virginia Tech’s North End Garage on Turner Street and other campus locations. Virginia Tech faculty and staff with a valid Virginia Tech parking permit can enter and exit the garage free of charge. Limited street parking is also available.
