Minh-An Pence named human resources director for the Division of Information Technology
Minh-An Pence will lead the Division of Information Technology’s human resources (HR) team and join a growing cadre of HR division directors across the university.
Pence has been a member of the Virginia Tech community since 2017 and has more than 20 years of experience working in a variety of HR specialties, including recruitment, benefits administration, and operations.
“People are the Division of Information Technology’s most important and valuable asset. We face historic challenges in recruiting and retaining employees as a result of the global changes the workforce has experienced over the past few years.” said Ken McCrery, the division's chief of staff. “Minh-An has the perfect combination of skills, experience, and vision to help us meet these challenges.”
Pence will report to Steve Filipiak, senior HR division director for the Office of the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, in addition to McCrery. This dual-reporting gives Pence access to a network of experienced HR professionals and resources to support her in the role. “Minh-An’s exceptional background and broad experience uniquely positions her to be successful in this role. Minh-An also has a proven track record of being an enthusiastic driver of HR programming and change,” said Filipiak.
Minh-An will serve as a strategic partner to the division's leadership in key areas of recruiting, retention, and development as well as leading HR operations for the division. The Division of Information Technology is the 11th senior management area to add a division director for human resources.
Minh-An has served in several HR roles with Virginia Tech. Most recently she served as outreach and engagement recruiting specialist for the Division of Human Resources. From 2019-21 she served as HR manager for the Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities and before that as benefits manager and benefits analyst for Human Resources. Pence is an industrial engineering graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and also holds a professional certification in human resources.
