Enter Metallica

Category: campus experience Video duration: Enter Metallica
Metallica's tour coordinator gives a behind the scenes look at what it takes to put on one of the largest touring shows in the world.
It really is a traveling city, right? I mean, you're talking about 87 trucks, hundreds of people, tens of thousands of fans. It's a logistical feat. Each of these eight towers weigh about 14.1 tons. On them are 256 motors that will raise the video and lighting rings in about 33 seconds. There's 26,000 pounds of tension on the cabling that keeps our PA hung safely above not only the band but hundreds of people in the snake pit and thousands of fans around the floor. It takes about 130 Met crew to put this all together in front of you, Metallica crew specifically. That's not including the 40 steel and another 92 local stage hands. So when you put all that together, that's about 350 people whose jobs will enable this production to come together solely from a production standpoint. That's not including the hundreds of security, ticket takers, concessionaires, and so forth. The fans in this market are super excited. From a crew standpoint, we're thrilled to be here and from a band perspective, I think when we recap the year, tomorrow is probably going to stand out.
