Campus memorial service for Annalee S. Marshall to be held Saturday, Feb. 23

The Virginia Tech community is invited to attend a memorial gathering to remember the life of Annalee S. Marshall, a senior in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences who died Dec. 27 following an automobile accident.

The gathering will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m.in War Memorial Chapel. Rev. Alex Richardson, Unitarian Universalist minister, will be the officiate.

In memoriam: Annalee S. Marshall, senior, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

BLACKSBURG, Va., Jan. 2, 2013 –Annalee S. Marshall of Adamstown, Md., a senior majoring in animal and poultry science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech, died Dec. 27 due to injuries sustained in an auto accident on Dec. 25. She was 20 years old.

A dean’s list student, Marshall was a member of our Virginia Tech Equestrian Team, and she and her horse, Splash, received numerous awards. Marshall took special pride in winning first place at the AAA rated competition in Culpeper, Va.

She combined her talents as an artist and as an equestrian when a banner that she painted won first place at the Washington International Horse Show.

At Virginia Tech, she became known for her work with groups such as Help Save the Next Girl, a group that seeks to empower young women and encourage community vigilance against violence. She was an active member of To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide.

She is survived by her parents, Lowell and Lauren and brothers, Spencer and Sam of Adamstown; grandparents Sam and Sally Marshall of Berkeley Springs, and grandmother Glenda Spencer of Harpers Ferry, W.Va. She was the granddaughter of the late Sanford and Caroline Pooler of Newton, Mass., and niece of Sandy Pooler and Margie Alt of Somerville, Mass., Lon and Glenda Marshall of Davis, W.Va., Lynette Marshall of Gaithersburg, Md., and Lee Marshall of Massachusetts.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Md. (301-663-1690), with Rev. Tim May officiating. Friends may visit between 2 and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
