Tracy Hall joins University Libraries as instructional services librarian

Tracy Hall, of Christiansburg, Va., has joined the University Libraries as the instructional services librarian. In this role she will work to help students understand and navigate library resources.

“Getting started with library research can be overwhelming,” Hall said. “I want to help students apply critical thinking skills not just to their next paper or project, but to life in general.”

“Information is changing rapidly, and it is important to help prepare students to be savvy about evaluating the information they get,” Hall said. In addition to scheduling and teaching library instruction sessions, Hall will also work to develop distance instruction modules.

“We are delighted that Tracy has joined us as instructional services librarian,” Lesley Moyo, director for library research and instructional services, said. “Tracy brings experience and abilities that are vital to the future development of our instructional program. One project she will work on is the expansion of our portfolio of online instructional services and resources, so that we can successfully reach students needing research and library support,” Moyo said.

“I’m excited to work at an institution of Virginia Tech’s caliber and prestige,” Hall said. “I’m also thrilled to participate in the exciting projects going on at the library.”

Hall earned a master’s degree in library and information science from Louisiana State University and has a bachelor’s degree in art history from Hollins University. Before coming to Virginia Tech, she worked at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La., as a reference and instruction librarian. She also worked at the Southwest Virginia Museum of Art and Center in the Square in Roanoke.
