Dr. Lara Bartl joins veterinary college's Small Animal Community Practice
Dr. Lara Bartl of Alexandria, Va., has joined the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech as an assistant professor of community practice in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences.
After completing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the veterinary college in 1997, Bartl worked as an associate emergency veterinarian and then the chief of staff and owner of the Alexandria Animal Hospital and Veterinary Emergency Service, now known as the VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital. She then served as medical director there. Bartl has also worked as a relief veterinarian for several small animal general practices in Northern Virginia.
“With more than 15 years of experience with canine and feline patients, Dr. Bartl has demonstrated her abilities in a progressive, busy practice in Alexandria,” said Dr. Greg Daniel, head of the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences. “She brings not only her knowledge of general medicine and surgery, but also an interest and experience in emergency medicine and in practice management, which will greatly enhance our programs.”
Bartl began her position with the veterinary college on July 1. In her new role, Bartl will support the Veterinary Teaching Hospital’s Small Animal Community Practice, which provides full-service out-patient preventative health care to local small animal clients within a 35-mile radius of Blacksburg. Services include vaccinations, parasite preventive programs, spay and neuter, dentistry, common clinical medical issues, and minor surgical procedures.
She completed a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics at Virginia Tech and was class president during her studies at the veterinary college. Bartl is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.
